How it works
Through incisions inside the nose (closed) or with a small cut across the base (open), the surgeon reshapes cartilage and bone, then a splint protects the new shape for a week.
Four illustrative steps. Select a step to highlight it; the optional anatomy view explains the same mechanism.
Recovery, in practical terms
A splint for a week, bruising for 2 weeks, no glasses on the bridge for 6 weeks.
What it can feel like: General anaesthesia.
What people discuss
A bump or width you dislike, asymmetry, breathing difficulty.
Reasons to pause
Under 16 to 17 while still growing, body dysmorphic disorder, smokers.
This list is not exhaustive. A clinician must assess your health, medications, skin and goals.
Risks worth understanding
- Breathing changes
- Asymmetry
- Need for revision
Ask your clinician
- How many rhinoplasties do you do a year?
- Can we simulate the result first?
Rhinoplasty works on cartilage and bone, deeper than most of the layers on this model.
