About Marionette Filler

Overview

Dermal fillers are commonly utilized for the marionette area. However, it is crucial to recognize that, in many cases, addressing the upper face is also necessary for comprehensive restorative improvement.

This is because folds in the marionette area often result from sagging skin, which occurs when volume is lost in the upper face.

Depending on the patient’s aesthetic goals, these enhancements can range from subtle to more pronounced.

Typically, most dermal fillers contain 1 cc of hyaluronic acid per syringe, which is equivalent to 1/5th of a teaspoon. While the amount of filler needed varies based on the desired outcome, on average, providers use 2–3 syringes for the marionette area.

Ideal Candidate
Marionette filler can be a good option for people who want to improve their lower face wrinkles and sagging. As defined earlier oftentimes for full restorative treatment upper face will need to be addressed as well.

Some ideal candidates include:

  • People with jowling
  • People who want more structure in lower face
  • People with downward corners of mouth giving sad appearance
  • People over 40 who have lost bone density and facial definition due to aging
What to Expect
Patients meet with a professional to discuss their needs prior to the procedure. Oftentimes, the upper face will be recommended as part of a restorative improvement.
The filler is injected by the provider into specific areas like the prejowl sulcus, marionette and oral commissures.

  • The procedure takes about 10-20 minutes
  • Marionette fillers are generally safe, but no cosmetic procedure is completely risk free. As with any injection there is risk for vascular compromise.
Recovery
It is advised to refrain from disturbing the treated area following a cosmetic procedure.

Touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to the area can potentially displace the filler or lead to complications.

Additionally, it is recommended to avoid facials, dental work or massages for the first two weeks post-treatment.

Similarly, intense physical activity should be minimized for the first 24-48 hours after the procedure. Vigorous exercise can increase blood flow, potentially causing the filler to move from the treatment area.
