How it works
Deoxycholic acid, a bile acid, destroys fat cells where it is injected; the body clears the debris over weeks. Destroyed cells do not come back, so results hold at a stable weight.
Four illustrative steps. Select a step to highlight it; the optional anatomy view explains the same mechanism.
Recovery, in practical terms
Noticeable swelling for 3 to 10 days, numbness for a few weeks.
What it can feel like: Moderate. Burning for several minutes; ice helps.
What people discuss
A small, soft double chin in someone near a stable weight.
Reasons to pause
Loose skin rather than fat, infection, a history of swallowing problems.
This list is not exhaustive. A clinician must assess your health, medications, skin and goals.
Risks worth understanding
- Swelling, numbness, firmness
- Rarely a bruised nerve causing a temporary uneven smile
Ask your clinician
- Is my problem fat or loose skin?
- How many rounds do you expect?
