Whether you call them gel fillers, injectables, cosmetic fillers, or by their brand names like, Juvederm or Restylane, fillers are a cost-effective way to minimize wrinkles, increase fullness, and enhance facial contours. Here’s what to know.

  • Can result in facial asymmetry 
  • Bleeding, bruising, redness, pain, and swelling

How much do dermal fillers cost?

Dermal fillers average $600 – $900 per syringe, depending on filler type, treatment area, and the injector’s expertise and location. You may need more than one syringe based on your goals.

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA): Provides volume and hydration using a naturally transpiring acid in the skin. Lasts six months to two years. Examples: Restylane, Juvederm, RHA, Versa, Belotero.
  • Calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA): Addresses deeper wrinkles with a substance present in bones. Lasts about one year. Example: Radiesse.
  • Poly-L-lactic Acid (PLLA): Facilitates collagen production to mitigate deep facial wrinkles. Lasts two years or more. Example: Sculptura.
  • Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA): Enhances volume and firmness with collagen and miniscule spheres that remain beneath the skin post-injection. Example: Bellafill.
  • Fat grafting: A more natural enhancement that uses fat harvested from other areas of the body and injected into the face. Can be performed as part of a surgical lift or on its own
  • Renuva fillers: Made from collagen, proteins, and other substances, Renuva creates a “scaffold” that helps your body produce its own fat for a natural result.

What to expect with a dermal filler: 

Initial consultation

  • Discuss medical history and medications, as well as your aesthetic goals
  • Book appointment

Filler appointment:

  • Facial examination 
  • Mark injection areas on face
  • Recommendation of specific filler type
  • Pre-procedure cleaning
  • Application of numbing cream (optional)
  • Injection of filler under skin with a thin needle or cannula (you may experience some discomfort)
  • Post-procedure skin cleaning
  • Ice pack to reduce pain and swelling

Post-appointment:

  • Don’t touch, rub, or put pressure on face for 48-72 hours
  • Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for the first 24-48 hours
  • If you have post-procedure bruising, swelling, and discomfort, use an ice pack; avoid taking aspirin
  • Avoid dental work, facials, or massage for two weeks
  • Use high SPF sunscreen
  • Follow your provider’s instructions
