Cellulite is a prevalent skin condition primarily affecting women. It appears as lumpy, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen.
Medical professionals don’t fully understand what causes cellulite, but it’s related to fibrous connective cords connecting the skin to the underlying muscle, with fat cells accumulating in between. This leads to a bumpy texture on the skin surface.
Hormonal factors and genetic predisposition contribute to cellulite, influencing skin structure, texture, and body type. Other factors, such as weight and muscle tone, also play a role in the presence of cellulite, even in individuals who are otherwise physically fit.
There are different stages of cellulite:
No dimpling while the patient is standing or lying down, but the pinch test reveals the “orange peel” appearance.
“Orange peel” dimpling appears when standing up but not when lying down.
